Tying
the Knot
Firstly, I must apologize that the newsletter has not been
seen for
a number of months. With my own
wedding preparations on the brain since December 2003, there was little time
for
much else. I am happy to say
that the planning is over and life can continue at a more relaxed pace, at least for
a while. Phew!
Since the summer wedding season is over for
now and bridal shows are in high gear in preparation for
the next batch of brides, now is a great time to think about creating a
hand-crafted momento for
someone heading down the aisle
or
celebrating an anniversary.
Some
of our customers have asked us to design custom cross stitch kits from a
wedding photo
or
from their invitations. I am
sure that any bride who is lucky enough to receive a gift from the heart
like a personalized cross stitch design would be thrilled.
It sure beats the obligatory department store registry, at least in my book.
The image to the left is a cross stitch design
we created for
a husband as a gift to his wife, converted from one of their wedding
pictures. The image to the right
was designed from an invitation that our customer mailed to us.
We incorporated the embossed card design with backstitch lettering.
The result was quite a success and a one-of-a-kind keepsake for
the wedding couple.
If you are
interested in a wedding cross stitch design, please contact us f
or

BCS
Design Use Policies
Recently some questions and
concerns have arisen regarding the kits we design in terms of ownership and
advertising usage. This article
should clarify some of the issues for
our customers and retail shops.
Black Cat Studios retains
ownership rights to all cross stitch designs, including custom kits and
original pre-designs. Although the
original subject matter was submitted by the customer, the design in cross
stitch is the property of Black Cat Studios.
Our company reserves the right to use any
original cross stitch design for
promotional purposes, including display on our web site, visual presentations
at needlework shows and in our newsletter. If
a customer requests that a kit not be posted to our web site for
valid reasons, we will consider the request.
Black Cat Studios cannot
use copywritten artwork outside of the acceptable timeframe without the artist’s permission.
Generally, works published in the US
pre-1923 are in the public domain. Works published after 1978 hold a copywright from the year of the artist’s
death plus 70 years. Works published after 1922 but before 1978 are protected f
or
95 years from the date of publication.

Shop
Spotlight:
ABC Stitch Therapy is not
your average cross stitch shop. They
not only have a physical store in Grantham, New Hampshire where visitors can purchase kits, fibers, fabrics and other necessities, but also they are
a massive online resource for
over 12,000 cross stitch kits. They
also carry needlepoint kits, fabrics, floss and accessories such as needles, bell pulls, frames and anything else you could possibly
want for
your project. I have personally
ordered some of my supplies from this company and have been very pleased with
the easy to navigate search and
order process on the web site, delivery has been quick and
orders have been correct. When you place any
order of $50
or
more, shipping is free. The
holidays are coming, and this company sells gift certificates!
The web site offers a
number of search methods, whether it be by subject
or
by kit designer. A search of
“Teresa Wentzler” produced five pages of results.
A drop-down menu on the header shows kit themes you can choose from.
The site also mentions new additions, so if you are a frequent visit
or
to the web site you can begin your search there.
ABC Stitch Therapy’s e-newsletter is a great
way to stay up-to-date on needlework releases and shop news. If you
wish to subscribe to the newsletter, you may do so at the web site,
or
you may simply view the latest newsletter online at www.abcstitch.com/news/newsletter.htm.
